More than 2,500 people across eight communities in Edo State have received food supplies from Fidelity Bank Plc as part of efforts to provide relief to families facing food insecurity.
The intervention, carried out under the bank’s Fidelity Food Bank initiative at Uromi Town Hall in Esan Central Local Government Area, is part of a wider programme through which the bank distributes 10,000 food packs monthly across communities in Nigeria.
Speaking at the distribution, the bank’s Divisional Head, Brand and Communications, Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, said the intervention was intended to provide immediate support to vulnerable families while strengthening community resilience.
“Today’s distribution will provide over 2,500 beneficiaries with essential food supplies. This event goes beyond the distribution of food items; it is about uplifting lives, strengthening communities and supporting families with resources that contribute to their wellbeing and resilience,” Nwagboh said.
He said the programme also contributes to Sustainable Development Goal 2, which focuses on ending hunger, achieving food security and improving nutrition.
Nwagboh disclosed that Fidelity Bank works with 19 partners nationwide to distribute 10,000 food packs every month to communities where the need is greatest.
The intervention was commended by the Edo State Government, with the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Jerry Uwangue, representing Governor Monday Okpebholo at the event.
Uwangue said corporate organisations had an important role to play in supporting community wellbeing, particularly as families face increasing pressure on their resources.
“On behalf of our Governor and the good people of Edo, particularly the people of Uromi, I thank Fidelity Bank for this remarkable demonstration of corporate responsibility and generosity,” he said.
Beneficiaries also expressed appreciation, saying the food packs would provide relief and help reduce the burden of feeding their families.
Launched in April 2023, the Fidelity Food Bank programme has so far distributed more than 300,000 food packs across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
