A retiring police traffic officer in Ogun State, DST Anifa Bello Abiodun, has been commended for her years of dedicated service, discipline and professionalism in managing traffic in Abeokuta.
The commendation was made by a former Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO in Ogun State, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who described Abiodun as a committed public officer whose conduct on duty had earned her recognition from government agencies, associations and members of the public.
Adejobi, who said he observed her work for almost a decade while serving as the command’s PPRO, said Abiodun consistently demonstrated patience, humility and a strong sense of responsibility while carrying out her duties.
He said the traffic officer maintained professionalism even when confronted with difficult situations and never deliberately mistreated members of the public.
Adejobi recalled an incident involving Abiodun and a senior police officer at the NNPC Junction in Abeokuta during the tenure of the late Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase.
According to him, the officer confronted Abiodun after she prevented him from passing through a lane being controlled from the Okemosan axis.
Adejobi said the officer later parked his vehicle, changed into civilian clothing and returned to the scene, where he slapped Abiodun.
The incident was witnessed by journalists and some prominent indigenes of Ogun State who were returning from an assignment at the Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, he said.
Adejobi said the matter was subsequently reported to the office of the Inspector-General of Police, who ordered an investigation.
He added that the senior officer was queried and eventually sanctioned with a reduction in rank.
According to Adejobi, the incident further demonstrated Abiodun’s temperament and commitment to duty, as she remained composed despite the provocation.
He said Abiodun’s years of service had made her a role model for other public officers, particularly those whose responsibilities require constant interaction with members of the public.
Adejobi also called on the Ogun State Government to continue to recognise the retiring officer and explore ways of benefiting from her experience and knowledge after her retirement.
“Retirement may mark the end of her active service, but it should not mark the end of her relevance,” he said.
He expressed optimism that Abiodun’s experience and dedication would continue to benefit Ogun State and the wider society.
Adejobi congratulated Abiodun on her retirement and commended her contribution to the Nigeria Police Force and traffic management in Ogun State.
