The Ogun State Police Command has reassured residents and road users of their safety following a reported security incident around the J3 axis of the Sagamu–Benin Expressway, announcing the deployment of maximum operational resources to track down the perpetrators and secure the area.
The Command said police operatives responded swiftly after receiving a distress call on Thursday, June 25, 2026, triggering a coordinated security operation across the affected corridor.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, directed the immediate deployment of four units of the Police Mobile Force (PMF), operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, and other tactical teams to the scene.
The statement noted that security personnel have commenced an intensive bush-combing exercise aimed at tracking and apprehending the fleeing suspects while maintaining a strong security presence along the highway.
The Command said the operation has already recorded significant progress, with security operatives dominating the area and taking proactive measures to ensure the safety of commuters and residents.
“The Command deployed four units of Police Mobile Force personnel, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, and other tactical teams to the area. An intensive bush-combing exercise is ongoing, with the deployed operatives making significant operational progress in tracking the fleeing suspects, dominating the area, and ensuring the safety of commuters and inhabitants of the corridor,” the statement read.
Police authorities appealed to members of the public to remain calm and go about their lawful activities without fear, stressing that adequate security arrangements have been put in place to prevent further threats and restore confidence among road users.
The Command further assured residents that all necessary operational measures are being implemented to guarantee public safety and maintain security along one of the country’s major transportation routes.
“There is no cause for alarm. All necessary security measures have been put in place to ensure public safety,” the statement added.
The Sagamu–Benin Expressway remains a critical economic corridor linking the South-West with the South-South and South-East regions of the country, making security along the route a priority for law enforcement agencies.
The Ogun State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and pledged to continue its efforts until all those involved in the incident are apprehended and brought to justice.
